About

Who we are

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit of Bamiléké families — by birth or by marriage — living in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Our mission

Founded in the early 1980s, LAFABA-DFW exists to foster and maintain the cultural heritage of the Bamiléké community originating from Cameroon's West Region — and to turn that solidarity into concrete support, both here in Texas and back home.

Our goals

Welcome & equip newcomers

An information network for arriving Bamiléké families: tutoring, scholarships, mentoring, sponsorship, and employment leads.

Fund self-help projects

Develop and fund small self-help projects across the West Region of Cameroon.

Build partnerships

Work in cooperation with other Cameroonian cultural groups in North Texas.

Invest in infrastructure

Support schools, electricity, clean water, and health clinics in the West Region.

Our story

Early 1980s

Bamiléké families in DFW begin gathering to socialize, promote their culture, and support one another.

2003

Operation Backpack launches with its first distribution in Mbouda — and makes the Cameroonian press.

2004–2005

Distributions reach Bangangté and Bafoussam as the program grows year over year.

2008

A landmark year: Baham, Bandjoun, and Houa receive supplies; chiefs from Foto and Bandja visit LAFABA in Dallas.

2026

A new generation steps up: the LaFaBa Youths program holds its first Meet & Chill, a delegation carries the DFW colours to the ABC Convention in Chicago, and the family welcomes His Majesty Natchemah Fo'o Sokoudjou Mpoda, King of the Bamendjou, to Dallas.

Today

Today LAFABA-DFW counts 157 members across the Metroplex, and the Community Hall Project is our next chapter.
